עוּרִי עוּרִי דְּבוֹרָה עוּרִי עוּרִי דַּבְּרִי שִׁיר (שופטים ה:יב)
RAVSAK is pleased to announce that we are again running a contest for the writing of original Hebrew poetry in all RAVSAK schools. Last year’s competition brought in an overwhelming response: more than 500 submissions from 28 schools. This year we can do even better!
For this year’s contest, there is a theme: Biblical Characters. All entries should be about a character from Tanakh.
There will be a winner in each of six categories: one each for a native and a nonnative Hebrew speaker in RAVSAK elementary schools (grades K-5), middle schools (grades 6-8), and high schools (grades 9-12). (For purposes of this competition, “native” refers to someone with one Israeli parent.) Poems may be of any style and no more than one page in length, single-spaced.
There is an additional category for teachers in RAVSAK schools (one award only). The same rules apply as for students.
Winners will be selected by distinguished judges. They will receive an age-appropriate book in Hebrew and a $50 gift certificate to Steimatsky USA. Winning entries will be published in the summer issue of HaYidion and on the RAVSAK website. All participants receive a certificate.
Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, February 29th. Student entries must include the author’s name, grade, “native” or “non-native,” and school at the top of the page. Teacher entries must include author name and school. Submissions are limited to one poem per person. Entries must be in pdf, doc or docx format only.
All winning entries will be required to add nikkud for purposes of publication.
Students must be currently enrolled, and teachers must currently be employed, in a RAVSAK member school to be eligible. To submit an entry, go to www.ravsak.org/hebrewpoem.♦
